The story of Rustufarion Kennels began with the arrival of our first Puli in 1992. "Oakey," also known as Pasztor Midnite Magic, who came to us from Margaret Keil of Pasztor Hungarian Pulis in Victoria. She proved to be the best companion anyone could want - a character from the first day she jumped out of her crate. Oakey's pedigree was comprised of mostly English dogs imported to Australia from the Borgvaale and Amroth Kennels.

"Oakey" has produced our foundation breeding stock, and was the dam of our first home-bred Australian Champion, Ch Rustufarion Astro Star "Twinkle", and is the proud foundation of our successful bitch line which has continued through Ch Rustufarion Little Star "LuLu," her daughter, Gr Ch Rustufarion Cyber Star "Polly," and her two daughters Rustufarion Outta Star "Portia" and Ch Rustufarion Outta Space "Klara."

Soon after "Oakey's" arrival we added to our team, and having met Carol Clarson of Sechantz Pulis it was a perfect opportunity to take on a Puli that she had bred. This was Ch Sechantz Hobgoblin, "Kodie" our first owner handled Champion, her greatest win was at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, where she was placed first in a very competitive class of four despite being the youngest bitch entered, and went on to be awarded Reserve Challenge Bitch. She was a wonderful Puli who unfortunately due to tragic accident didn't reach her full potential.

Some time later we took on another Puli, Sechantz Intrinsic, a gift from Carol, a repeat breeding of "Kodie" and daughter of Best In Show Winner Ch Sechantz Csabu Warrior "Csabu." "Csabu" was predominantly made up of English bred dogs combining Borgvaale and Desamee lines through his grandsire Ch Desamee Cili Noddy and also combines American Skysyl lines with Ch Skysyl Watch Mr Big Stuff of Borgvaale, who was and still remains one of the best Pulis I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Our contribution to the breed here in Australia has included the introduction of two American-bred Pulis imported from Jim Belanger and Mike Connery of Belrob Acres Pulik, America, which has expanded the gene pool. Belrobs Star Down Under, "Star" daughter of nine-times Best in Show Am & Can Ch Belrobs Front Runner "Bingo", combines the best of Szeder and Belrob lines and also has the top winning Hungarian import Am & Can Ch Csanyteleki Cigany "Ciggy" in her pedigree. "Ciggy" was a Hungarian import owned by Dr Mary Wakeman. Our imported dog Ch Belrobs Piece of the Rock "Rocky" is sired by Am Ch Belrobs Dark Victory, and again traces his heritage back to Hungarian lines and includes Am Ch Szeders Show Girl, winner of Puli Club Of America Specialty and Best In Show. "Rocky" bred to "Oakey" produced Gr Ch Rustufarion Toii Boii, our first Multiple Best In Show winner and my best friend. Affectionately known as "Merlin" to his friends, he is the most devoted of companions and to date our most successful home-bred Puli.

Making several trips to the United States of America has enabled us to gain a great deal of understanding drawing on the experience of many people who have been involved with the breed for a great number of years. Thank you to those people who have offered their help and guidance so freely. Our meetings with them have been invaluable to us. Particular thanks to Jim and Mike who trusted in me to take on two of their Pulis which they put a great deal of time into before they were ready to leave for the land down under.

In 2002 Rustufarion Kennels welcomed the arrival of the first male Hungarian import to Australia, from the very successful Napfenyvarosi kennels of Hungary, "Ricky", Aust & Hung Jr Ch Napfenyvarosi Csahos Rikkancs is a repeat of some very successful siblings. His older brother "Eber" became one of Hungary's top winning Pulis and can be found in many pedigrees throughout Hungary. "Rikkancs" sister was campaigned in Denmark by Bodil Rusz of the Black n Blues Puli kennel and has had a tremendously successful career including a Best In Show 2nd at the 2002 World Show in Amsterdam.

In recent years we have been privileged to have had the opportunity of working with Susan McConnell by importing frozen semen from the highly successful Am Ch Prydain Trademark HT "Markie", a Puli I was fortunate enough to meet during my first trip to America. "Markie" was expertly owner-handled by Susan winning Multiple Best In Shows and Best In Specialty Shows, bred and co-owned by the famed Prydain Kennels in America. Watching Susan and "Markie" in the ring was a testament to the bond a Puli develops with an equally admiring owner. "Markie" was a stunning Puli with an exceptional show career at a time when there was considerable competition in the breed. His excellent breeding and pedigree has contributed to the quality and success of his youngsters here in Australia and we look forward to campaigning them as they mature. Susan has advocated through her sportsmanship to always fight the good fight, a worthy value to have in the world of dog showing.

Although only a small kennel, Rustufarion are very proud of what we have been able to achieve in only a few generations of breeding. We have bred multiple Rustufarion Champions in only a few generations, and owned and titled many more. Rustufarion is home to two generations of Pulis who are not only Australian Grand Champions but also Multiple Best In Show (All Breeds) winners, first beginning with Gr Ch Rustufarion Toii Boii "Merlin" and continuing on with his children, Gr Ch Rustufarion Cyber Kaos "Otto" and his sister Gr Ch Rustufarion Cyber Star "Polly" who each gained this prestigeous title within months of each other. Our Pulis also continue to delight us with their success in the sports and performance arenas, with many Rustufarion representatives competing at the highest levels and attaining numerous titles in obedience, agility, jumping, herding and flyball.

The story of the Rustufarion journey would be incomplete without mention of the special people who have joined us a long the way. Rustufarion is honoured to share the success of our breeding program with our friends dedicated to conformation - Patrice and Courtney Smith showing our Pulis in Sydney, and Dean Hughes and Russell Barker in Melbourne. Also flying the Rustufarion banner in the sports and performance arena are Alyssa Ablitt in Sydney and Vikki Evans in Canberra. Thank you for always presenting Rustufarion Pulis at their best.

Of course Rustufarion is not just about ribbons and dog shows, we are fortunate to be able to share our passion with the families who have selected and welcomed into their homes a Rustufarion Puli. Your commitment and dedication to loving our Pulis and the joy you share with us a long the way makes it all worthwhile. The 'Puli Picnic' is a celebration of your commitment and an opportunity to meet up and share those moments that are unique to owning and loving a Puli.

Our goal at Rustufarion Pulis as breeders is to develop a breeding program that will produce quality dogs throughout each generation. With a number of fine examples of the breed we look forward to continued development of our "Rustufarion" bloodline with a focus on refining our Pulis with exceptional structure, temperament and Puli type. We have some exciting plans for 2010 as we look forward to introducing our next batch of youngsters to the conformation ring.

Our home is located about one-and-a-half hours drive from Sydney's CBD.
